About This Event / イベントについて
The Tsuyunoten Shrine Annual Festival (例大祭) is one of Umeda's oldest neighborhood festivals. Lion dance (舞獅子), umbrella dance (傘踊り), and taiko drums (役太鼓) parade through the Sonezaki shopping streets surrounding the shrine — famous as the setting for Chikamatsu's Sonezaki Shinju love-suicide play.
The festival is a distinctly local affair, with neighborhood participation and traditional performing arts. Check the shrine website for exact July dates, as they vary year to year. The parade route covers the shopping streets near the shrine.
