A legendary Umeda yakitori house founded in the early 1950s, grilling premium duck over binchotan charcoal with a secret house sauce.

Torihei is a long-established yakitori restaurant in the Shin-Umeda Shokudo-gai, Osaka's celebrated eating and drinking alley, with a history stretching back to the early 1950s. The shop stands apart by grilling high-grade duck rather than ordinary chicken, using Tosa binchotan charcoal and a family tare (dipping sauce) that has been replenished and carried on since the founding. The result is a skewer with a texture and depth of flavour that regular chicken simply cannot match. The third generation now runs the kitchen, maintaining the same direct-flame grilling style and the same secret sauce, with an omakase course available from a modest price point. The menu covers a range of duck cuts and rare parts, and the setting is a classic, characterful izakaya atmosphere rather than a polished dining room. It suits everyone from curious first-timers to dedicated yakitori enthusiasts who make the pilgrimage for what is often called Osaka's finest grilled bird. Few places capture the soul of Umeda's post-war food culture like Torihei. Go Umeda is proud to point you to the skewers that built a local legend - order the omakase, savour the duck, and taste three generations of dedication in every bite.
