Research-oriented design studio ONiON gray lab in Message Umeda Building, Sonezaki.

ONiON gray lab (Onion Gray no Kenkyuushitsu) is a research-oriented design studio on the 1st floor of the Message Umeda Building at 2-16-19 Sonezaki, Kita-ku, Osaka, the same building that houses the ONthe UMEDA co-working space. The studio describes itself as a "free and unbound design office" where Science and Fantasy mix, drawing on behavioural economics and storytelling.

The studio's philosophy is that design is the act of optimising a process, and it aims to be the grounding for clients' success through scientific insight and unique thinking. Services span creative direction, branding, graphic design, web design, editorial work and "Sunday Library" (Nichiyou Tosho) content projects, with a mission to remain a partner that moves clients.

The Message Umeda Building sits a one-minute walk from Higashi-Umeda Station on the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line, and a short walk from JR Osaka Station and Hankyu Umeda Station, giving the studio convenient access for client meetings and project work across the Kansai region.
